The Mouthwatering Sweetness of Homemade Apple Tart

on April 20, 2013

I originally wanted to call this entry “The Mouthwatering Sweetness of Apple and Vanilla Ice Cream Pie” but I decided not to because the vanilla ice cream is completely optional.  It all depends whether you want the pie to be warm or cool and if you like vanilla ice cream or not.  Making apple pie is very easy and it tastes really good.  I will put the recipe for mini-pies because that is the way that I usually make it, but you can use the same exact recipe and put it in one big pie baking dish instead of several small pies in a cupcake pan.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1/2 stick of butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup of all purpose flour (plus a little extra to sprinkle on the rolling board)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

2.  Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius (about 392 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Cut up butter and put it in a mixing bowl along with the flour and salt.
  • Rub the mixture together until it has the consistency of breadcrumbs (you may need to add a bit of flour).
  • Add sugar.
  • Mix in water a little bit at a time with a wooden spoon and knead until until you have a soft lump of dough that leaves the sides of the bowl clean (if too dry, add water and if too wet, add flour).
  • Sprinkle flour on a rolling board and on a rolling pin.  Roll out dough until it is about 1/4 cm thick.
  • Use the rim of a cup to help you cut out 6 circles of pastry.
  • Press circles into cupcake papers and place the papers into a cupcake baking tray.
  • Bake for 15 mins or until they are golden brown.  Remove from the oven and cool.

  • 2 unpeeled apples, grated medium
  • Brown sugar to taste (approx. 1 tablespoon)
  • Cinnamon to taste

  • Grate apple into mixing bowl.
  • Put grated apples into pan on a medium heat and cook off liquid.
  • While liquid is cooking off, mix brown sugar and cinnamon into pan.  Taste and add additional brown sugar and cinnamon as needed.
  • Once water is cooked off, remove mixture from pan and let cool.

  • Fill crust with filling.
